Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder was a trilogy for the ages. Multiple knockdowns, dramatic recoveries and post-fight accusations dogged their three fights, with Fury winning two after the draw in their initial fight.
Wilder (44-4-1, 43 KOs) and his right hand struck fear throughout the heavyweight division for several years, as he eviscerated all opponents. His trilogy with Fury understandably took a lot out of both fighters. “The Bronze Bomber” has suffered damaging defeats in recent years, but did return to action this past June, stopping Tyrrell Herndon in the seventh round. Wilder has often fired cheating accusations at Fury, and the “Gypsy King” has addressed those accusations, telling “The Bronze Bomber” what he needs.
Fury himself has suffered in and out of the ring at different times, and will return to action on April 11 against Arslanbek Makhmudov. “The Gypsy King” memorably lost a lot of weight, returning from suicidal ideation to survive a heavy knockdown against Wilder, earning a draw. Wilder has often accused Fury of cheating in their trilogy and recently appeared on Ring Magazine’s Mr Verzace Podcast, where he said:
“He didn’t win nothing, they gave it to him. I can’t think about the third one, but the two of them, he definitely cheated,” Wilder said at the 25:45 mark. “I got proof and evidence of that. When I do my documentary and my movie about it, it’s gonna be presented. … The man cheated, he’s the biggest cheater in boxing history. If you look him up, you’ll see it.”
Taking to his Instagram stories, sending a message to Wilder, Tyson Fury said:
“I’m just sat here thinking about all the stuff Deontay Wilder’s been saying, recently. And even me, I got sort of dragged into posting stuff, video of me knocking him out and whatever. I’ve just deleted it, actually, off me story, because rather than retaliating and hate on somebody, this man really does have mental health issues, it’s evident to see.
“And rather than just go back and forward with him and yada, yada, yada, saying he’s deluded and all that, I’m just gonna pray for him, and I’m gonna ask god to help him. He obviously needs the help. I’m not getting involved in pettiness. The fights were won fair and square. And that’s it. I’m gonna pray for him, and I’m gonna ask the Father to bring him back, back to the light, cause this man is lost. lost soul, and I beg Jesus to return him to the kingdom.
“And although this man doesn’t like me for whatever reason, don’t know why, because I made him a hell of a lot of money, tens of millions. Tough times can make people say and do crazy things. I know he’s been having a tough time with his personal life and his family and stuff, so it’s very difficult times for Deontay Wilder.
“So whatever he says, I take it with a pinch of salt. I know it’s not personal, and I hear he’s a brother in Christ these days, and any brother in Christ is always welcome to come train at mine, whatever. Needs to get away, needs to do some training, my doors always open. Even if the man don’t like me or whatever, doors always open there for you. We’ve shared some great fights over the years. Pray for him, one hundred percent.”
With Fury and Wilder back in action this year, who has the most left? or should both retire?
