Fury’s retirement may not be final—but his latest comments have fans wondering what’s next
It’s been months since Tyson Fury last stepped through the ropes, and in his final showing, he appeared poised to silence doubters. That was December 2024—his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk. For much of the fight, Fury dictated the pace, keeping the Ukrainian champion at bay with clean counters and calculated pressure. But the momentum shifted late, with Usyk storming back in the championship rounds and scoring a knockdown in the ninth—one that many felt went unacknowledged. Usyk would go on to win by split decision, and in the aftermath, Fury stunned the boxing world by announcing his retirement.
That chapter seemed closed—until it wasn’t. On July 2, 2025, Saudi adviser Turki Alalshikh posted to X: ‘The Gypsy King will be back!!! I talked with him, and I have his word to have him in Riyadh Season in 2026 … We have a rabbit to hunt!’ The reference was unmistakable.
Fury, who’s long called Usyk “the rabbit,” added fuel to the fire when he publicly challenged Usyk again shortly after the Ukrainian dismantled Daniel Dubois. In a clip circulated by Boxing Kingdom, Fury claimed he won both prior fights and remains the only man capable of beating Usyk.
Yet in a recent Sky Sports interview, Fury threw cold water on the idea. Asked when he might return, Fury said: ‘Never, I’m too old. Boxing is a young man’s game.’ But with Fury, the tone often masks the truth—and fans know better than to take his words at face value.

Whether it was a misdirection, promotional ploy, or true hesitation, the message was unmistakable: Fury’s future is a mystery, but his presence still looms over the heavyweight division. As Oleksandr Usyk edges closer to a rumored bout with Joseph Parker, a third Fury-Usyk fight remains a tantalizing option. If the former champ decides to lace them up once more, a super trilogy could be back on the table.
