‘The Gypsy King’ Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) and Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) recently went head-to-head for one of the biggest heavyweight showdowns of the year, a fight that saw Usyk become the new undisputed heavyweight champion and Fury suffer the first loss of his professional career. While the loss undoubtedly dulled his shimmer, albeit momentarily, Fury’s cutman for the Usyk fight, Jorge Capetillo, is confident the former champ is ready to bring back his former glory.
Capetillo was recently interviewed by Betway. This was when he gave an insight into the conversation he had with Fury after a fight. “I messaged him, and he is really good. Tyson said he was ‘fine, back in the gym and ready to rock and roll.’ He is ready to bounce back, and I know he will because he is a strong man. He should be able to bounce back from this loss, and I couldn’t be more proud of him,” he said.
Capetillo further mentioned that Fury has already ‘conquered everything in boxing.’ Moreover, he stated that he was proud of Fury for getting over his mental health struggles and becoming the world champion. “After the three fights against Deontay Wilder, he has nothing to prove. He still has a lot of passion for boxing, and I’m truly happy for him and know he will become undisputed champion of the world,” he said.
However, he had a word of advice in the event of a possible rematch against Usyk. Capetillo mentioned that Fury should work on pacing himself more during the fight instead of jumping around. “He needs to box more, keep his guard up, and keep it tight. He’s the bigger man, and he needs to push back Usyk,” he said.
The loss has not stopped Fury from taking digs at his former opponent. In fact, he revealed that he felt like he was fighting an amateur boxer.
“It was a lot easier than I thought it would be. A lot easier. People say he’s a hard man to hit. I was lighting him up with three and four-punch combinations and laughing at him,” he said. Fury, however, believes that him having too much fun during the fight cost him the victory.
