Dillian Whyte will look to reinstate himself in the heavyweight title picture as he takes on Moses Itauma on August 16th.
When Whyte faces Itauma, he will be looking to do what no other fighter has done by defeating the 20-year-old prospect.
Itauma’s TKO win over Mike Balogun allowed him to continue his upward trajectory in the division, as he moves closer to a world title opportunity.
A win for Whyte would put him in a position to fight for a heavyweight belt for the first time since facing Tyson Fury in 2022. Prior to that fight, Whyte had an awkward yet humorous moment with the father of his opponent.
In April 2022, Whyte and Fury met at Wembley Stadium for the WBC World Heavyweight title. Prior to the fight, the pair had a final face-off the day before their meeting.
In an interview with Queensberry Promotions, Whyte was asked how he felt after facing off with Tyson Fury. Whyte answered by saying, “That’s the same guy I know from eight, ten years ago. I’m the same guy. I’m the same now as I was then… I respect him, he respects me.”
‘The Body Snatcher’ went on to add, “We’re ready to do battle.”
Standing alongside Whyte was the father of Tyson Fury, John Fury. The interviewer then acknowledged John Fury’s presence by saying, “John’s here. This is quite a unique situation here.”
Before the media practitioner was able to finish his statement, Whyte interrupted to ask, “Who?”
The interviewer then told Whyte, “This is big John Fury.” Tyson Fury’s opponent then laughingly said, “I thought that was Steve Bunce.”
Steve Bunce is a professional sports pundit and commentator, who has regularly featured on BBC and ESPN.
John Fury had little reaction to the case of mistaken identity, with a neutral facial expression consistent in his appearance.
Despite John Fury being known for recent theatrics around both Tyson and Tommy Fury’s fights, he did not acknowledge the mistake and carried on with the interview.
Despite Whyte knocking out Alexander Povetkin to earn the world title opportunity with Fury, he would not be victorious over his fellow countryman.
As Fury was leading the bout through five completed rounds of their meeting in London, he would stop the fight in round six.
An uppercut from the ‘Gypsy King’ would spell the end for ‘The Body Snatcher’.
The sharp shot from Fury came with just 10 seconds left in the round, as the right hand left Whyte flat on his back.
Despite the title challenger returning to his feet, Whyte was clearly not in a condition to fight as he began to stumble. This resulted in the referee waving off the fight.
