Former UCLA Bruin Carson Schwesinger has declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, and given that it is just a day away, his name could be getting called sooner rather than later. After a breakout season with UCLA this past season, many mock drafts have placed the linebacker going within the first two rounds.
While a ton of NFL teams are in need of a skilled linebacker like Schwesinger, the NFL Draft is loaded with a ton of talent. Given the success he had as a junior as well as his NFL Combine showcase, the former Bruin could be getting a call sooner rather than later.
One interesting scenario to watch this draft weekend is if the Washington Commands pick up the former Bruin. That would fit the mold of where he is projected to land, given the Commanders were just one game away from heading to the Super Bowl.
One daunting reason the Commanders could be in on Schwesinger is that former linebacker coach, Ken Norton Jr, is currently a part of that Washington franchise.
The UCLA product joined Kay Adams on "The Up and Adams Show with Kay Adams" and discussed just that, as well as how the interview process went.
"The conversations with every team have been great," Schwesinger said. "My old linebacker coach for two of the years I was at UCLA is in Washington, so I have a connection there. "The whole process has been exciting in terms of getting to know everybody and them getting to meet me."
Norton and Schwesinger had gotten the chance to know each other when Norton was the UCLA linebackers coach. He knows a thing or two about being a successful coach, as he had his hand in Washington's defensive success last season.
If Schwesinger is available for the Commanders in the draft, it will be interesting to see if they utilize that selection by nabbing the former Bruin. If not in the first round, the projection has him going as late as the second round, which is never a bad place to be selected.
The 2025 NFL Draft begins on Thursday.

While she couldn’t score a stoppage, her volume, accuracy, and control left no doubt. That shift in the fight’s rhythm was exactly what Claressa Shields needed to assert her dominance and it came as a direct result of her dedicated body work. By investing early in body shots, Shields methodically wore down Lani Daniels, disrupting her ability to move and box defensively on the outside, which is where Daniels is most comfortable. The tactic forced Daniels into trading in the pocket, where Shields had the clear edge in speed, volume, and accuracy. This was a classic demonstration of elite-level ring IQ from Shields taking away an opponent’s legs so the later rounds become less about chasing and more about imposing will. Once Daniels stopped circling and stood her ground, Shields walked her down and outclassed her with sharp combinations, clean counters, and superior footwork in close quarters. It wasn’t a knockout, but it was a tactically dominant win. The kind that further strengthens Shields’ argument as the most complete female boxer in the sport today. The body attack set the table and the later rounds served the feast. Dream match with Ali next? With Shields being victorious, do we finally get the Laila Ali fight to happen? Ali said that she needed 15 million to consider the fight. Shields said that she was able to secure that money to make it happen. Now it’s on Ali to see if she’s really serious to come out of retirement and fight the self proclaimed GWOAT. “I’m going to stay at heavyweight and hopefully get the big fights with Franchon Crews, Che Kenneally. I want to fight Laila Ali,” Shields said. “We put up the $15 million for the fight and we ain’t heard nothing back yet.
Browns make curious decision with rookie QB Shedeur Sanders
The Cleveland Browns are giving Shedeur Sanders special treatment in training camp, but it's not the type of favoritism the fifth-round pick would necessarily want. Per Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN, Sanders is the only Browns quarterback who has not been taking reps with the first-team offense during OTAs or the first two practices of training camp. Former Pittsburgh Steelers first-round pick Kenny Pickett, veteran Joe Flacco and rookie Dillon Gabriel have all split reps with the first team. Despite being asked to throw passes to members of the equipment staff amid a shortage of professional pass-catchers for a four-quarterback roster, Sanders said he's thankful for the opportunity to show the Browns coaching staff his talents. "I feel like that it's not in my control, so I'm not going to think about that or even have that in my thought process of why it is," Sanders said to a question as to why he's not getting first-team reps. "There's a lot of people who want to have the opportunity to be at this level, and I'm here and I'm thankful to have the opportunity. So, whenever that is, that is." Sanders, 23, believes that he can contribute more to the Browns than what the coaching staff is asking of him. "It doesn't make me feel down or left out because I know who I am as a person," Sanders said. "I know who I am as an individual and I know what I could bring to this team. So, I can never feel less than any circumstance." The Browns selected Sanders with the No. 144 pick in April's draft. As a player whom many draft analysts thought was a first-round talent, Cleveland took what could be the steal of the draft in the fifth round. It's curious why the Browns aren't giving Sanders a shot with the first team early in training camp before the quarterback race becomes more serious. Cleveland should see what Sanders has to offer this summer. Flacco, 40, isn't a long-term solution at the position. Pickett failed in Pittsburgh. The Browns need to gauge what rookies Gabriel and Sanders can do with the first team. Having Sanders throw balls to the equipment staff is a waste of everyone's time. But then again, Cleveland has wasted plenty of quarterbacks.
New suitor emerges for Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez
The Arizona Diamondbacks have plenty of suitors for third baseman Eugenio Suarez. A new team has reportedly entered the market for his services. Scott Lauber of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the Phillies have reached out regarding Suarez. While Lauber did not provide any indication as to whether or not those talks have gained traction, the Phillies are an intriguing suitor for the Diamondbacks' third baseman. The Phillies' interest may be a recent development. Jon Heyman of the New York Post speculated on Friday that the Phillies could emerge as a suitor in the wake of third baseman Alec Bohm landing on the injured list with a fractured left rib. Suarez is in the midst of what is arguably his best season thus far. He has produced a .249/.321/.587 batting line in 421 plate appearances entering Saturday with 36 homers and a major league-leading 87 RBI. Suarez would be more than just another powerful bat in the lineup. Designated hitter Kyle Schwarber and first baseman Bryce Harper are both left-handed hitters — adding Suarez would provide more balance in the batting order. He would also provide a counter against opposing managers bringing in a lefty reliever to face Schwarber and Harper. The biggest question would be how the Phillies would handle an eventual logjam on the roster. Bohm is expected to return from the IL in mid-August and would not have a clear path to regular at-bats if Suarez were acquired. Schwarber could theoretically return to left field to open up playing time at the DH spot, but his outfield defense is mediocre at best. However, as the Phillies are also looking to upgrade the outfield, where Max Kepler and Brandon Marsh have been disappointments, adding Suarez could solve several problems in one fell swoop.
Cowboys fans send animated two-word message to Jerry Jones
Dallas Cowboys fans appear to have one thing on their mind during training camp, and they made sure to let team owner Jerry Jones know about it on Saturday. Hundreds of Cowboys fans showed up to the team's annual "Opening Day Ceremony" on Saturday in Oxnard, California. Jones addressed the crowd, and the 82-year-old was greeted with a lot of restless supporters when he took the microphone. As Jones began talking about how disappointed he was with his team's 7-10 season last year, many fans shouted the same two-word message: "Pay Micah!" The fans eventually settled enough for Jones to urge them to take note of all the changes the Cowboys have made this offseason. "I was shocked last year when we ended up with the record that we had. I never saw that coming. I want you to know, and I want you to look for as you watch practices this week, I want you to watch what we've done in the areas that we needed to work on," Jones said. "Look at what we've done in this offensive line. Look at what we've done, if you will, with our receiver cops. Look at what we're doing with our defense. A lot of changes out here -- a lot of coaching changes, a lot of player changes." Parsons is set to make $24M in the final year of his rookie contract this season. He is undoubtedly seeking to become the highest-paid defensive player in football, which would mean topping the $41M per year T.J. Watt recently got with his new deal from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Parsons had 12 or more sacks in each of his first four NFL seasons. Jones has hinted that he is playing hardball with the star linebacker in contract negotiations, and Cowboys fans do not seem to appreciate it.
