This fight was suppose to happen in October 2022, before Benn tested positive for the female fertility drug clomifene, which is banned inside and outside competition by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
Robert Smith who’s the General Secretary of British Boxing Board of Control, said of Benn in December, “He’s obviously had his suspension lifted, so I can’t see any reason why he can’t box once he’s been granted a license … We haven’t received any application from him yet. … I can’t see any reason why he wouldn’t be approved.”
This matchup is without a doubt boxing’s longest feud. This fight comes with some family history. Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn fought twice in the early 90’s. Eubank won the first fight and the second fight was ruled a draw. The rivalry between the fathers has certainly trickled down to their sons.
Benn fights and welterweight and Eubank fights at middleweight, this fight is scheduled at middleweight. Both fighters can not rehydrated no more than 170 pounds the day after the weigh in. Benn is not concerned with jumping up two weight classes though.
