WBC Interim Junior Welterweight Champion Vergil Ortiz Jr. takes on Erickson Lubin on November 8, as we preview this upcoming fight.

Ortiz, who fights in front of his hometown crowd, is currently The Ring’s No. 1 ranked fighter at 154 pounds. His recent run includes a majority decision victory over Serhii Bohachuk last August and a unanimous decision win over Israil Madrimov in February. These two victories mark the only times Ortiz has been taken the distance in his professional career, with a 23-0 record, with 21 KOs.

Erickson Lubin, the IBF’s No. 1-ranked contender, has victories over Luis Arias, Jesus Ramos Jr., and Ardreal Holmes Jr. in his last three fights. That was the perfect response to his second loss, which came against the WBC Junior Middleweight Champion Sebastian Fundora in 2022. Lubin could have taken on the IBF Champion Bakhram Murtazaliev, but went with Ortiz.

Pre-Fight

“He’s a dangerous fighter because he has intellect, he has experience, and he has power. He likes to fight. I’ve seen his fights before. He legitimately goes in there to fight people. I respect that about him, but he’s also a smart fighter as well, so when you add both of those into the question, that’s when you have a dangerous fighter. “I’m very motivated. I want to win. I want to win looking good. Just being in the ring with someone with the pedigree like Erickson Lubin, it motivates me to train harder, to actually want to come to the gym,” Ortiz stated

“I know Vergil Ortiz is gonna come with his best, but I think I’m his best opponent. I feel like I’m the best guy he’s gonna have ever faced. I know I’m going into his backyard, but I feel like this is where everything I’ve been through, all the hard fights that I’ve fought and all the title eliminators that I’ve been through, I feel like this fight right here is where I get all my glory,” Lubin said
