Fabio Wardley and Daniel Dubois will reportedly face each other on May 9 in the UK.
After an 11th-round stoppage of Joseph Parker to win the WBO Heavyweight interim strap, Wardley became the full champion when Oleksandr Usyk chose to skip his mandatory obligations. Dubois is on a mission for redemption. After losing his IBF title to Usyk in a stoppage loss in July 2025, Dubois has overhauled his team—including a reunion with veteran trainer Don Charles—to fast-track his path back to a world title.
“On behalf of Team Dubois, I wish to confirm to the media and all relevant parties that Daniel has decided to resume his professional relationship with Don Charles and his coaching team. Don Charles and his team guided Daniel to world champion status and oversaw the most successful period of his career.
“Following the defeat to Oleksandr Usyk, Daniel took time to reflect on his journey and the emotions surrounding the decision to part ways with Don. After careful consideration and discussions with the wider team, Daniel has chosen to reverse that decision. Daniel will now return to working with Don Charles, under whose corner he achieved his greatest accomplishments to date,” Riz Khan said (Dubois business manager) said
Wardley will likely invite pressure to lure Dubois into a brawl, betting that his superior chin and punching power can overcome Dubois. Against Parker, he successfully slowed the pace by digging to the body before exploding with a right-hand lead. He will need this against Dubois to sap the younger man’s energy and disrupt his rhythm. Wardley was frequently outboxed against Parker and appeared fatigued by the middle rounds, yet he maintained a dangerous instinct that allowed him to find finishing shots.
Dubois possesses one of the best stiff jabs in the division. His primary goal will be to keep Wardley at the end of his reach, preventing him from turning the fight into an inside brawl. Under Charles, Dubois has historically fought with more structure. By staying disciplined and utilizing a tight high guard, Dubois can pick apart Wardley’s defensive lapses—which were evident even in Wardley’s win over Parker—without overcommitting and leaving himself open to counters.
