Dillian Whyte is still targeting a rematch with Anthony Joshua, provided ‘The Body Snatcher’ comes through his next fight.
Whyte lost his first fight against Joshua, getting knocked out in their 2015 clash. A rematch was set to go ahead in August 2023. However, the fight was scrapped following Whyte’s ‘adverse analytical finding.’ Joshua then faced Robert Helenius, as he secured a stoppage win. Meanwhile, Whyte was later cleared, as he followed up with wins against Ebenezer Tetteh and Christian Hammer. Whyte did not look spectacular in those wins, but he has a chance to remind the public of his skills as he boxes on the June 7 Fabio Wardley vs. Justis Huni card. An opponent has not been named, but Whyte has AJ in his sights.
“I’m trying to get as much action as I can so I’m ready for these kinds of fights. In the last two years, I’ve had three fights or something? They haven’t been top-level fights. I need to be active these last few years,” Whyte said
If the Joshua fight does not happen, Whyte has alternatives. He could target other big names such as Joe Joyce and Fabio Wardley. Joyce is coming off a loss against Dereck Chisora, his fourth loss in his last five bouts. However, Joyce is the former WBO Interim Heavyweight Champion, meaning he is a credible name. Joyce is still looking for the big fights, as he aims to shut down those who are questioning in his future in the sport.
Wardley is a rising star in the heavyweight division. He knocked out Frazer Clarke in his last fight. He now faces Justis Huni in his next fight in front of his home crowd of Ipswich. A victory would put Whyte back into big-time boxing, offering him the chance to secure the biggest bouts. However, since Wardley works with Whyte, the bout may not happen. But for now, Whyte has to prove his doubters wrong.
