Moses Itauma stopped Dillian Whyte in one round, raising question marks over his next steps.
Itauma’s win extended his record to 13-0, as he secured the biggest victory on his resume. Naturally, he has been linked with many fights moving forward, as we explore the options. One of the most talked-about possibilities is a fight against Joseph Parker. Oleksandr Usyk, the undisputed champion, holds the WBO belt, but if he decides to vacate it, Parker is in line to claim it as the mandatory challenger. Since both Itauma and Parker are aligned with Frank Warren, a fight between them for a vacant WBO title would be easy to make.
Another intriguing option is a fight with Filip Hrgovic. Hrgovic has just beaten David Adeleye on the same card. A fight against Hrgovic would be a chance for Itauma to test himself against a top-tier contender who has faced and defeated a high-level opponent in Joe Joyce.
The name on everyone’s lips, however, is Oleksandr Usyk. While a title shot against the undisputed champion might seem premature for the 20-year-old, Turki Alalshikh has expressed his desire to see the fight happen. Itauma’s trainer, Ben Davison, even called a potential matchup with Usyk a “win-win.” The WBO has him ranked as their #1 contender, putting him in a position to challenge Usyk. Either way, Itauma has plenty to consider moving forward.
“What is next? I will fight anyone they put in front of me. [The crowd] are saying [undisputed champion Oleksandr] Usyk. The team mentioned they want me to get some rounds out. Any of them can happen. I put on a performance for you guys so it’s now ‘who’s next? I don’t want to call out Usyk because I don’t believe I deserve the opportunity, but guys that do deserve the opportunity – I want to fight those lot. So maybe Agit Kabayel, maybe Joseph Parker. Maybe them type of names,” Itauma said
