Jake Paul defeated Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. to secure his biggest win, raising question marks over his next steps.
Paul secured a unanimous decision win, taking his record to 12-1, 7 KOs. Chavez was the former WBC Middleweight Champion, showing the magnitude of the win. While Chavez was not the most active fighter, having only boxed once since 2021, he was still expected to win.
Paul indicated his desire to face Anthony Joshua. Joshua has not boxed since getting stopped by Daniel Dubois. Eddie Hearn has said that he expects Joshua to retire next year, meaning he will likely target the most lucrative fights. Joshua is unlikely to win another world title, while Jake has boxed at heavyweight when he faced Mike Tyson.
Paul could also pursue his world title ambitions. There is a fight against Zurdo Ramirez. Ramirez beat Yuniel Dorticos in his last fight on the Paul-Chavez card to retain his WBA and WBO Cruiserweight Belts. He only has one loss on his record, which came against Dmitry Bivol. Paul and Ramirez faced off in their post-fight presser, while Jake said Ramirez “looked slow tonight” and that he was “easy work.”
There is also the Tommy Fury rematch. Paul suffered his first loss against Fury via a split decision, which came when he faced his first-ever boxer. A rematch has been spoken about for some time, with reports Paul offered $15-20 million for a two-fight deal. One would have been in boxing, while the other in MMA. Both men have accused each other of ducking, but Paul has said he wants to put that loss right.
Gervonta Davis has also been mentioned, although that is unlikely. Paul boxes at cruiserweight, while Davis at lightweight. Tank also has plenty to focus on with his expected rematch against Lamont Roach Jr. Most of the boxing community had Roach winning their first fight, only for the referee’s failure to give a 10-8 knockdown after Tank took a knee in round nine, which prevented it. Either way, Jake has plenty of options.
