What’s Next For Katie Taylor?

Katie Taylor defeated Amanda Serrano for the third time, leaving question marks over her future.

Taylor’s victory meant that she retained her Undisputed Junior Welterweight Title, likely ending any hopes of Serrano getting a win. Taylor could announce her retirement from the sport. Taylor has won everything in the sport, including the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics in the lightweight division. Taylor is also a five-time AIBA Women’s World Champion, winning five gold medals at the Women’s World Championships (2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014).

Taylor is also a six-time European Champion, showing she had a stellar amateur career. She is also a two-weight undisputed champion, having won all the belts at 135 and 140 pounds. Taylor has also fought at some iconic venues, including Madison Square Garden, where she beat Serrano in 2022. Taylor even featured on the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson card, beating Serrano for the second time.

Alternatively, Taylor could continue with her career. She has spoken about fighting in her hometown of Croke Park. The stadium holds over 82,000 people, offering Taylor the chance to earn a massive payday and a home advantage. The fight would also get the support from other Irish stars, such as Conor McGregor, who has spoken previously about Taylor fighting there.

If that were to happen, Chantelle Cameron could be the perfect opponent. Their rivalry is tied at 1-1, as Taylor won their last bout. A trilogy was mentioned before Taylor accepted the Serrano fight. Cameron accused Taylor of headbutting in their second fight, setting the narrative for a third bout. And with Taylor still undisputed at 140, there are still reasons to make that fight. But for now, she will not make any hasty decisions.

“I don’t know. I’m just going to enjoy this victory right now, and sit back and reflect. I’ll make a decision on that soon. I’m very, very happy with tonight’s performance and the amount of work we put in the last few months. It was a grueling few months of preparation. We live for these kind of fights and I was so glad I was able to showcase what I can do tonight,” Taylor said
