Which 3 Boxers Should Have Their Own Punch-Out?
Anthony Behar

Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! is one of the most infamous NES games ever. It features the titular star, Mike Tyson (50-6), as a final boss. However, getting to Tyson is the hard part. You must traverse through various circuits, taking down challengers from Madrid, Spain, or even Hollywood, California.

With Tyson’s upcoming fight against Jake Paul (9-1), fans are flocking back to the game, recapturing the nostalgia from their childhood. They’re taking Little Mac on a journey to face “Iron Mike,” testing their finger speed against one of boxing’s legendary personalities.

While fans are hoping that Paul doesn’t become Little Mac on July 20 at AT&T Stadium, fans would love to see another Punch-Out!! game in the future. But which three boxers should grace the title and game with their presence?

Canelo Alvarez Replaces Mike Tyson… Sort Of

One obvious candidate for the job is none other than Canelo Alvarez (61-2-2). The undisputed super middleweight champion has vanquished numerous foes, ranging from Gennady Golovkin to Shane Mosley. He’s one of boxing’s most well-known names, which is why Nintendo should reach out to him.

In turn, he’s become a positive ambassador for Mexico and its people. He represents their culture well and would also be a great addition to the Punch-Out!! series. With Mike Tyson being extremely popular during his time, there’s no better boxer to carry the Punch-Out!! torch than Canelo.

Gervonta Davis

Gervonta Davis (29-0) would also be a nice addition to the Punch-Out!! series, for he’s got solid fists and would be a challenging opponent. How so? He has 27 career knockouts and is the only boxer to defeat Ryan Garcia (knockout).

Plus, “Tank” has the same devastating power that Mike Tyson possessed during his illustrious career. Why not pass that torch down to a fighter who’s similar to him in fighting style? Although Davis might not be a household name like Canelo, his popularity would skyrocket after being named the next cover athlete for the Punch-Out!! series.

Oscar de la Hoya

A similar boxing legend to Mike Tyson that should grace Punch-Out!! is Oscar De La Hoya (39-6). The legendary fighter has made a living on taking down big-name fighters, including Arturo Gatti. Therefore, it makes sense to add the Los Angeles-based fighter to the title, making him a final boss.

De La Hoya possessed the same knockout power as Tyson did, with 30 knockouts throughout his illustrious career. It would also be a nice tribute to the legendary lightweight for his contributions in the business, both as a boxer and as a promoter.
