Wilder’s Next Fight Announced – ‘This Is A Game-Changer’

Deontay Wilder will face Tyrrell Herndon in June in his next fight.

Wilder has been out of the ring since getting stopped by Zhilei Zhang last year. That was his second consecutive defeat after coming out second best against Joseph Parker. Wilder’s record under his trainer, Malik Scott, has been disastrous. He has only managed to secure one victory in four fights. This was a first-round stoppage win against Robert Helenius in 2022.

There have been increasing calls on Wilder to retire from the sport. He is no longer the WBC Heavyweight Champion after having lost that title to Tyson Fury. He also entered the sport to secure money for his daughter, who suffers from Spina Bifida, something which he has achieved. Wilder is at the latter end of his career as the 39-year-old is no closer to getting a title shot. However, he appears he is not done just yet.

Wilder’s Mindset

“The best is yet to come. I had a lot of outside distractions that I had to get rid of. I took care of a lot of people and it got to the point where I couldn’t do it anymore. I’ve got seven kids of my own, I can’t take care of everybody. Even the closest ones to me, I’ve been betrayed so many times. It’s been a domino effect for the last five years. The thing about betrayal is it’s worse than heartbreak,” Wilder said

Wilder admitted that before the Parker fight, he broke his arm, something which he discovered afterwards. This could have impacted his performance. Wilder has also been targeting fights against Anthony Joshua and a potential Francis Ngannou fight. The Joshua fight still has the opportunity to earn him a lucrative payday, even if it is not as big as it would have been if they had fought for undisputed.

Wilder’s team had reportedly made a $50 million offer for the fight. However, talks broke down as the two fighters went their separate ways. Wilder faced Fury, while Joshua took on Andy Ruiz Jr.
Meanwhile, Ngannou has been very vocal about his desire to face Wilder. If Wilder can come back with a stoppage victory against Herndon, he may put himself in the conversation for other big heavyweight fights as he seeks to rebuild his career at this late stage.
