The long-awaited WBC Junior Middleweight bout between Sebastian Fundora and Keith Thurman is back on the radar, with promoters now targeting an early 2026 date.

The matchup was originally set to headline an MGM Grand card on October 25, 2025. However, the event was canceled after Fundora suffered a hand injury during a sparring session.

“WBC super welterweight world champion Sebastian Fundora suffered a hand contusion in sparring and his title defense against former unified world champion Keith Thurman, which was scheduled for October 25, has been postponed. Details on a new date for the bout will be forthcoming soon. Ticketholders for the event will receive full refunds at their original point of purchase,” PBC stated

Thurman’s Aims

Fundora had been on a great run of form, beating Chordale Booker and Tszyu in their rematch in July. Meanwhile, Thurman, the 37-year-old former unified welterweight champion, has boxed only twice since 2019. He beat Brock Jarvis in his recent fight in March, as he aims to become a double champion. While Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) has yet to release a final confirmation, insiders have pointed to early 2026 as a possible timeline. In the meantime, Keith is not letting the struggles get to him. He previously mentioned that he hopes to fight for ten more bouts.

“But I’m a man who moves in faith. Every fighter has their own trials and tribulations, and while I know boxing politics played a role, I’m not here to point fingers. God is good, and I believe the right doors will open in 2025 for my career to rise again. I hope to have a long, prosperous career. That said, I see anywhere from three to ten more fights in my future. We’ll have to see how things unfold. If the right opportunity comes up at 160, I’ll be there. But for now, I plan to stay at 154 throughout 2025. After that, a catchweight between 147 and 160 could definitely be on the table,” Thurman said
