Saskatchewan Roughriders Bring In Future Hall Of Fame Running Back

The Saskatchewan Roughriders arguably have one of the best running back rotations in the CFL. And after bringing in their latest addition for the upcoming 2025 season, they may have opposing defensive lines on notice.

First, the Riders signed the most sought-after free agent in the 2024 class when they brought in A.J. Ouellette on a two-year deal worth $160,000. They then added to their squad by taking a chance on Ryquell Armstead following his release from Ottawa during the season.

Now, the Riders have added a future Hall of Fame running back to their room, but not for a role you might think. On Monday, the team announced the addition of four-time Grey Cup champion Andrew Harris to their coaching staff as the running backs coach.

This moves comes before the second season coach Corey Mace’s coaching career and just over a year after Harris signed a one-day contract with his hometown team and former longtime squad Winnipeg Blue Bombers before calling it quits. This hiring is perceived as a shot to the heart of Bombers fans everywhere, especially since the two teams are big rivals.

It should be noted that Harris and Ouellette were teammates and won a Grey Cup together in Toronto back in 2022, with Mace acting as the defensive coordinator for that Argonauts team. Ouellette saw Harris as a mentor, and Harris heaped praise on his former teammate upon teaming up.

Harris made an Instagram post back in June after attending a game between the Riders and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. There, he posed with Mace, Ouellette and Riders star offensive lineman Jermacus “Yoshi” Hardrick, whom he played with in Winnipeg.

The Riders may be looking at improving from a Western Division Final finish in 2024. They will open the CFL season alongside the Ottawa REDBLACKS as they go head-to-head on Jun. 5.
