Saskatchewan Roughriders Sign Former Super Bowl Champion
Dennis Wierzbicki-USA TODAY Sports

The Saskatchewan Roughriders had a solid bounce-back CFL season in 2024 under first-year head coach Corey Mace, who built the team's new identity under a strong, star-studded defense.

The Riders are looking for their first Grey Cup appearance since 2013, and their most recent signing will look to make a significant impact this upcoming season. According to 3 Down Nation , the Riders have added Super Bowl and Grey Cup champion Shane Ray.

Ray comes to the team after short NFL stints with Buffalo Bills and the Tennessee Titans. He also won a Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos in 2016 when they beat Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers.

Through four seasons in Denver, Ray racked up 94 combined tackles in 49 games and would tack on 14 total sacks.

After his four-year tenure with the Broncos, he signed with the Baltimore Ravens in May 2019 but was released before the season on August. He then headed north of the border to sign with the Toronto Argonauts.

Ray went on to play two seasons in Toronto, playing 10 games in 2021 and 2022 combined. He tallied 17 tackles, six sacks, and two forced fumbles with the Argonauts, whom he helped win a Grey Cup under Mace's guidance on defense in 2022.

The championship-winning linebacker will immediately look to make an impact with the Riders in 2025 with Mace, who is also eyeing to mark a reunion with Gray with a return trip to the Grey Cup.
