In a high-stakes showdown at Baum-Walker Stadium, No. 11 Arkansas swept top-ranked Texas over the weekend, punctuated by a 13-8 win on Saturday. With the victory, the Razorbacks (40-9, 17-7 SEC) became the first team in college baseball to reach 40 wins this season, a milestone that adds weight to a series already steeped in history.

The Razorbacks trimmed Texas’ lead in the SEC standings to just two games with six regular-season contests remaining.
For Texas (38-8, 19-5 SEC), the weekend marked unfamiliar territory. The Longhorns hadn’t been swept in a series since 2023, and Saturday’s defeat was the first time they had been swept by Arkansas in a three-game series since the rivalry began in 1902.
A combination of erratic pitching and defensive lapses hampered Texas throughout the series. On Saturday, the Longhorns issued 10 walks and allowed five home runs. Arkansas capitalized at nearly every opportunity.
“You can’t play this kind of baseball and expect to even be competitive in the postseason,” Texas head coach Jim Schlossnagle said. “Give all the credit to Arkansas. They outplayed us in every shape, form, and fashion they possibly could.”
Perhaps the most unexpected storyline emerged from Arkansas first baseman Reese Robinett, who entered the game with just 17 at-bats on the season. Robinett delivered two pivotal home runs in a game-tying solo shot in the fourth inning and a three-run homer in the fifth that gave Arkansas a lead it wouldn’t surrender.

“It’s like the light came on the last couple of weeks,” head coach Dave Van Horn said. “He’s just been swinging the bat a lot better.”
Robinett attributed his performance to preparation and timing. “Just staying patient when I get opportunities,” he said. “Just kind of take it.”
Despite a brief Texas surge, including a three-run homer by Jalin Flores to open the scoring, Arkansas responded with power and depth. Justin Thomas Jr. and Charles Davalan each added long balls, the latter off Texas lefty Dylan Volantis, who entered the game with a 0.42 ERA in SEC play.
The Razorbacks controlled momentum late, keeping the tying run from reaching the plate after Davalan’s three-run shot.

With the sweep, Arkansas not only tightened the SEC race but reasserted itself as a legitimate national title contender. Whether this performance marks a turning point or simply a peak remains to be seen, but the weekend left no doubt: Arkansas is surging at the right time.
