The fall semester is complete, so how is Texas doing in its quest for a fourth Learfield Directors’ Cup Trophy in the last five years? The Longhorns have some work ahead this spring.
Texas currently sits tied for 10th overall after a strong fall semester in its first athletic year in the Southeastern Conference. The X account Directors’ Cup Updates keeps track of the rankings and noted that while this fall wasn’t as good as last year, the Horns are still in the mix nationally.
Texas currently has 268 points after the volleyball and soccer teams reached their respective NCAA tournaments and football made it to the College Football Playoffs semifinals.

“It is not as high as last year's, the best ever Fall for Texas with 344 points,” the Directors’ Cup Updates accounts posted. “From 2021 on Texas has scored 144 (win), 186.5 (win), 298 (2nd), and 344 (won).
“With only 21 sports, I expect most of these score changes to show up in the final total score. Women's and Men's CC likely to flip spots as being the dropped score. The gross drop in points is 76 with an expectation that the actual score would drop 75 — from 1377 final to 1302.”
How does this compare to previous Falls?

Women’s basketball is currently 5-1 in SEC play and should make a deep postseason run. Men’s basketball is battling its way through conference play and currently sits on the NCAA bubble, according to most projections.
Baseball and softball are both expected to have strong seasons. New baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle opens the season in three weeks. Softball coach Mike White’s team starts the year as the preseason No. 1 team in one poll.
The Longhorns historically have NCAA-caliber men’s and women’s swimming teams. Men’s and women’s tennis have also grabbed national titles in recent years.
There’s plenty of time left remaining, but the Horns will have to fend off the usual suspects.
“Stanford is on track to score 1299.75 points. So things are tight,” the Directors’ Cup Updates account posted. “There are too many ongoing/pending sports to predict Stanford's finish based on current rankings. It is a little more straightforward for Texas and based on current rankings/predictions, Texas could score 1359.”
