Tennessee Vols baseball coach Tony Vitello called out an unnamed SEC program this week for its shady approach to the transfer market.
Vitello, who has been on a recruiting heater over the last few weeks, appeared on WNML's SportsTalk on Wednesday and he called out an SEC program for making "undercover offers".
"There's one school in our league that likes to make undercover offers to guys, and our two or three guys that were on the end of that have stayed strong," said Vitello. "I think, in general, there are extra conversations these days. However you want to frame them. I don't think that's really been an issue for us."
It's unclear which program Vitello is referring to, but it's not a surprise that some "undercover offers" are being shared with players that aren't in the NCAA transfer portal. That's fairly common in college sports these days (even though "tampering" isn't legal).
The good news for the Vols is that Tennessee is one of the top "it programs" in college baseball. Swiping a player from Tennessee would likely require an opposing program, in most cases, to overpay significantly.
By the way, Vitello, who is never one to mince words, continues to be the best interview in college sports.
