Vols' Christian Moore puts his name in Tennessee's record books with a single swing against Kentucky
Angelina Alcantar/News Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK

Christian Moore is having a heck of a season for the Tennessee Vols.  The star infielder is slugging .376 with a career high 19 home runs and 45 RBIs so far this season.

Three of those home runs put Moore in lofty company in Tennessee history on Sunday in the Vols' 13-11 series-clinching win over the Kentucky Wildcats.

Moore led off the Vols' scoring with a two-run shot to right field in the third inning.  After the Vols fell down 8-7 in the sixth inning, Moore drew the Vols level with another shot to right field.

However, it was his third home run of the game that proved to be impactful, both for the game and in the Tennessee baseball record books.  With the Vols clinging to a 10-9 lead in the eighth inning, Moore hit a towering blast to left field for a 13-9 lead.

the home run made Moore just the seventh player in program history to tally three round trippers in a game.  The blast also extended his program-leading career home run leading total to 46, a number he continues to go back and forth with first baseman Blake Burke over.

Most importantly for the weekend, it gave the Vols the runs they'd need to hold on for the win.  Kentucky managed to rally in the ninth to add two more runs on back to back solo home runs to make the game uncomfortably close at 13-11.  Without Moore's final blast, it could have been a different story for the Vols in Lexington.

Instead, Tennessee claimed its fifth straight series win, with Moore earning SEC player of the week honors in the process.  For now, he stands along in Tennessee's record books for career home runs.  We'll see if he can keep it there, or if his teammate will finish at the top once the Vols' season is done.
