The 2025 college basketball transfer portal has remained quite active one month after the NCAA national championship.
Many teams have begun to rebuild their roster as hundreds of players have looked to take their talents elsewhere. Even NCAA Tournament stars such as St. John's RJ Luis Jr. and New Mexico's Donovan Dent have elected to accept NIL deals elsewhere.
On Wednesday, another emerging college basketball star transferred from a smaller school, committing to play for an ACC program.
Denver Pioneers point guard Sebastian Akins, the 2025 Summit League Freshman of the Year, has announced that he is transferring to play for Steve Forbes and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
"The hunt is over, 10 back # committed," Akins wrote on Instagram.
Akins, a 6-foot-2, 175-pounder from Concord, NC, grew up right down the road from Winston-Salem, close to Charlotte. He attended the 1 of 1 Academy but went unranked in the class of 2024, only receiving an offer from Denver.
In his freshman season with the Pioneers, Akins started the season coming off the bench, but was later granted the starting guard role late in the season.
He finished the year averaging 12.7 points on 42.1% shooting and 30.4% from distance, 2.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists.
Akins joins a loaded Wake Forest 2025 transfer portal class with now five total players. Those include guard Nate Calmese (Washington State), sharpshooter Mehki Mason (Washington), forward Myles Colvin (Purdue), and forward Cooper Schwieger (Valparaiso).
While Forbes lost a few key players after the 2024-25 season, including All-ACC guard Hunter Sallis, he was able to keep around some rotational pieces. But it seems Wake Forest will need a lot of production from the incoming class to remain competitive next season.
