It has been a long time since the Detroit Tigers have won the World Series. They're trying to contend for one here in 2025, but they haven't won it all since 1984.
That makes members of the 1984 Tigers legends in the city of Detroit, and sadly, the city lost a legend on Thursday.
Chet Lemon was a member of those 1984 Tigers, and he was a prolific one at that. He has died at the age of 70.

"The Detroit Tigers join all of baseball in mourning the passing of Chet Lemon. While he was a World Series Champion and All-Star on the field, perhaps his biggest impact came off of it. That includes creating the Chet Lemon Foundation and dedicating much of his post-playing career to youth baseball development," the Tigers said in a statement on social media.
"Our thoughts are with Chet's family, friends and all those he coached, mentored and inspired."
Lemon had dealt with a period of poor health recently and had to have multiple hospital stays due to blood clots as well as a series of strokes that made it so that he could not walk or talk, per the Detroit Free Press.
He was exceptional as a baseball player over 16 seasons in MLB. A first-round pick out of Fremont High School in Los Angeles, California, he was a three-time All-Star and boasted a career OPS of .797 with 1,875 hits, 215 home runs and 884 RBI.
Lemon played his first seven seasons for the Chicago White Sox before being traded to Detroit in 1981. In that 1984 World Series against the San Diego Padres, he notched five hits and two stolen bases over five games.
The Chet Lemon Foundation has a central goal of youth development and funding youth sports programs while at the same time creating awareness for stroke and aphasia.
