Since arriving on campus, there has been a lot of talk about the level of competition within this year’s Kentucky basketball team. At Wednesday’s media day, that is exactly what a number of players talked about, with Aaron Bradshaw talking about the team being full of “dawgs”.
“With this team, there’s a lot of talent,” Bradshaw said. “There’s a lot of versatility. There’s a lot of dawgs. A whole team full of dawgs. Regardless of who we face, we are going to go at them.”

Rob Dillingham also spoke to the level of competition, saying, “Literally every day in practice we’re going at each other.” From a coaching standpoint, you want that. John Calipari talked about how competitive and “chippy” practices can get, but once the players get off the court it’s as if nothing had ever happened and they’re back to having fun with each other.
“When we’re on the court, we’re competing, but let’s have fun together. That’s what you want,” Calipari said.

"The biggest thing is, we have good people with good hearts and are willing to share. They are all competitive as heck… Yesterday, we had one of our best practices, and it was chippy… As I walked… pic.twitter.com/2PD9saKEEU
Given the youth of this team, that level of competitiveness will certainly help this team develop. It’s also good to see a team with many players with that mentality and aggression, something that has been missing from recent Kentucky teams.
