Coach Todd Golden's Florida Gators won their university's third-ever NCAA championship late Monday night with a thrilling 65-63 victory over the Houston Cougars in San Antonio, Texas.
The Gators entered hostile territory and came out with one of the biggest wins in program history, sparking a celebratory take from former Gators star and current Boston Celtics NBA champion Al Horford.
Horford, now in his 18th NBA season, won two national championships with Florida in 2006 and 2007.
He averaged 10.3 points per game in three seasons in Gainesville before honing his game, including his three-point shot, at the next level.
"Just so happy for the university for getting that third national championship, putting basketball back at the top again," Horford said according to The Gainsville (FL) Sun.
"Unreal...This team is so gritty. Coach Golden kept them believing and they found a way," Horford added.
"Looking from afar all year, just very proud of how composed they were.
"In the tournament to do this...It's very, very difficult. You don't see that very often," Horford said of Walter Clayton, Jr., Golden and the Gators basketball team.
