The Alabama Crimson Tide basketball program has been built up to be one of the best in college basketball thanks to head coach Nate Oats' ability to attract top talent.
He's brought in several elite players to play basketball in Tuscaloosa. That's a list that includes Brandon Miller, Herbert Jones and Collin Sexton, amongst others.
Unfortunately for the Tide, they just lost an elite talent who was a part of their 2026 recruiting class, though.
Christopher Washington Jr. is a four-star small forward from Murfreesboro, Tennessee (Providence Christian Academy). He had been committed to Alabama since an official visit in early September, but that commitment is no more.
On Monday, it was announced that Washington has reopened his recruitment.
Notably, this news came after official visits to Cincinnati (September 12), Villanova (September 26), Auburn (October 10) and Florida A&M (October 17).

This is a big loss for Alabama. According to the 247Sports Composite, Washington is the No. 19 small forward in the 2026 class and the No. 1 overall recruit from the state of Tennessee.
He checks in at 6-foot-9 and is known for his elite athleticism as a front-court player.
"Washington is one of the highest-level athletes in the national class. He's an extreme leaper who makes it look almost effortless when he gets his head on the rim," 247Sports Director of Scouting Adam Finkelstein wrote. "He can rise up to catch lobs, fly at the offense glass for tip-dunks (7.2 rebounds per game in UAA play, including 2.6 on the offensive end), or throw down the type of open floor dunks that can immediately change the momentum of a game. Washington is also a super smooth runner who sprints the floor with long, fluid strides. He has terrific wing size with long arms and long legs, but that high center of gravity and lean build make it difficult for him to hold his ground, even though he's not averse to contact."
Washington Jr. is ranked as the No. 41 2026 recruit in the country, and he's now one of only 16 recruits in the Top 10 who remain uncommitted. He'll undoubtedly be at the top of many programs' lists.
Before committing to Alabama, Villanova, Cincinnati and Auburn were also at the top of Washington's list.
