Alabama came into Thursday's NCAA Sweet 16 matchup looking to make a statement and did just that with a 113-88 win over BYU. Mark Sears finished with 34 points and eight assists with ten 3-pointers, one shy of an NCAA tournament record. Alabama went 25-of-51 from beyond the arc, which set a record for makes and attempts.
Sears was one of four tide players in double figures. Aden Holloway has 23 points, along with Chris Youngblood chipping in 19 points, and Clifford Omoruyi adding 10 points. There wasn't a shot that didn't look good for Alabama's lineup. They went 35-of-66 (53%) from the field with 16 points in the paint.
BYU couldn't keep up with the Tide after falling behind early. The lead increased to 25 points in the second half with Sears and Co. putting on a show.
Richie Saunders led the Cougars with 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting. The Tater Tot king ends his time with one of the best stories of the tournament. He was joined by Egor Demin with 15 points, Keba Keita adding 13 points and Trevin Knell with 10 points as the only BYU players in double figures.
Alabama heads to its second consecutive Elite Eight and awaits the winner of Duke and Arizona.
