Shohei Ohtani experienced a rare cold-streak at the plate early in the 2026 season.
But in his last two starts on the mound Ohtani has been his own best friend, hitting leadoff homers in each game to give himself an immediate lead. The most recent example came on Wednesday against the Rockies, when he began the game by striking out Jake McCarthy before hitting a home run off a Tomoyuki Sugano fastball.
Ohtani finished the night 1-for-4 at the plate while throwing six innings of no-hit ball, recording seven strikeouts to go with four walks.
While Ohtani has hit nine homers and owns a .269 average at the plate this season, he’s been stellar on the mound for the Dodgers. He’s made nine starts and gone at least six innings in eight of them, striking out 61 batters and allowing just five earned runs in 55 innings. His 0.82 ERA is tied with Zack Greinke’s start to 2009 for the third-lowest through nine starts in the Live-Ball Era (since 1920).
Which brings us to today’s quiz. As good as Ohtani has been on the mound this season, he’s been as dangerous of a hitter in his MLB career with 289 home runs in just his ninth season. With that being said, can you name the foreign-born MLB players to hit at least 250 home runs?
Good luck!
