Washington's Mosen Wood hit a three-point shot at the buzzer to give the Huskeis a 77-75 victory over Cal before a crowd of 2,913 on Thursday night in Berkeley.
Washington (11-7, 3-4 Pac-12) let an 110-point second-half lead get away, but rallied in the final seconds to pull out the win.
Washington’s Keion Brooks Jr. had 21 points, but did nit scored in the final 13 minutes. Cal led by a point when Fardaws Aimaq blocked a Brooks shot with 4.4 seconds left. But the Huskies regained possession, got the ball to Wood in te corner and he knocked down the shot. The officials had to check that he got the ball off in time, but he did.
Cal (6-12, 2-5) trailed 48-37 with 17:13 left in the second half, but the Bears rallied to take a 65-62 lead on Keonte Kennedy's three-pointer with 5:32 remaining. After Washington tied it, Fardaws Aimaq completed a three-point play to put the Bears back in front by three with 4:47 to go. The Cal lead grew to six points when Tyson hit a three-pointer at the 2:06 mark.
With Cal holding a four-point lead, Tyson missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 43.4 seconds left, and Washington's Moses Wood hit a pair of free throws at 32.7 seconds to make it a two-point game.
Two foul shots by Jalen Cone put Cal ahead by four with 31.4 seconds to go, but a three-pointer by Anthony Holland made it a one-point game with 24 seconds to go.
With 14.1 seconds left, Aimaq missed the front end of a 1-and-1 to give the Huskies a chance to win. And they did.
Aimaq finished with 18 points and Tyson and Cone had 17 apiece.
Brooks scored 16 points in the first half, which ended with Washington holding a 40-35 lead.
The Huskies missed their first 10 three-point shots of the game and finished the half 3-for-15 from long range. But Anthony Holland’s three-pointer from the corner with three seconds left in the half provided Washington with the five-point cushion.
Tyson had 13 first-half points for Cal, which led by as many as six points midway through the first half. The Bears shot 41.4% in the first half and were 3-for-12 from long range. Cal committed just four turnovers in the first 20 minutes.
