Florida Atlantic scores huge win before Final Four

Several head coaches this year used the NCAA Tournament as a launch pad for a new job, but Florida Atlantic's Dusty May won't be one of them.

Per Matt Norlander of CBS Sports, May is expected to sign a contract extension that will pay him more than $1 million annually. His 2022 salary was $451,473.75, per Boardroom.TV.

The Owls won the East Region as a 9-seed after defeating Kansas State, 79-76, in the Elite Eight and will face 5-seed San Diego State for a spot in the national title game.

Norlander's report states May "was contacted by multiple search firms reaching out on behalf of many power-conference schools in February and March," but that the Florida Atlantic head coach "passed on interviewing with all of them."

The CBS Sports article goes on to note the men's basketball program was the benefactor of a $7.5 million gift still waiting to be used and that "in total ... more than $15 million is available to be spent in the months and years to come."

May and the Owls might just be getting started, but the same can't be said for other NCAA Tournament darlings.

Ed Cooley left Providence for Georgetown after a first-round exit against 6-seed Kentucky, while Kennesaw State's Amir Abdur-Rahim is headed to South Florida after his team nearly pulled off an opening-round upset over 3-seed Xavier. Mike Rhoades led VCU to a 12-seed but was poached by Penn State, while Ryan Odom was at Utah State as a 10-seed and is now at VCU.

Rick Pitino agreed to become the new head coach at St. John's, and Iona filled the hole his move created by landing Fairleigh Dickinson's Tobin Anderson. He led FDU to the second win by a 16-seed over a 1-seed in tournament history before falling in the second round to Florida Atlantic.

The Owls are still dancing, and May's announcement means they will be long after this season ends.
