Omaha transfer Frankie Fidler committed to Michigan State basketball this week and he explained why on a recent radio show.

It’s been a big week for Tom Izzo and Michigan State basketball as the Spartans landed star Omaha transfer Frankie Fidler on Tuesday.

This ended a longer-than-expected wait for his decision which was supposed to have been made eight days prior on an Omaha radio station. He was expected to pick Wisconsin originally, but his Michigan State visit changed his heart.

The sudden transfer of Chucky Hepburn didn’t exactly help the Badgers either.

But one has to wonder if Fidler’s decision had anything to do with Hepburn’s transfer and after hearing him on The Drive with Jack on Wednesday, it seems like the visit to East Lansing was the difference.

Andrew Cumbow did a really good job of summarizing the interview and there were a lot of good nuggets from the interview.

According to Cumbow, Fidler picked Michigan State because he wanted to go to a winning culture and play in the NCAA Tournament. And he loved the family atmosphere in East Lansing and his mom loved the team and the campus. It sounds like Izzo and the players really knocked this visit out of the park.

Another interesting note from the interview was the fact that Fidler knew Jaden Akins and Tre Holloman already and he had worked out with the former. That’s a good sign for those who may be worried that Akins could entertain the NBA draft process again (he still could, but it’s likely he’s back).

Fidler is going through the NBA draft process and getting feedback while working out in Arizona and it sounds like he’ll be moving to East Lansing in June. Oh, and he wants to improve his defense and is going to ask Draymond Green if he can wear No. 23 (he’s not hopeful).

Big thanks to Cumbow for the spark notes from the interview and it sounds like Michigan State got a good one in Frankie Fidler.
