Packers catch a break with Josh Jacobs' potential suspension

The Green Bay Packers will continue to be without one of their star players.

Josh Jacobs is still on the commissioner's exempt list due to a May incident between him and his ex-girlfriend, so while he can collect his paychecks, he's not eligible to practice or play.

While his legal situation is almost settled, the league is still conducting its own investigation to determine the length of his potential suspension, and there's still some good news.

According to Jonathan Jones of The Athletic, whatever time he misses before the league makes a decision will already count as time served for his suspension.

Josh Jacobs may not miss additional time for the Packers

"When he is eventually suspended, he will be credited with time served. For example, if after three games on the exempt list Jacobs is suspended six games by the league, he will be eligible to return in Week 7 against the Lions. He would have to pay back the three game checks he received while on the exempt list," Jones explained

Jacobs' situation suggests he might be suspended for six games, since that's the usual penalty for players violating the league's personal conduct policy.

Even so, there's still no official word on the league's findings or when it'll finish looking into his case.

In his absence, the Packers will turn to MarShawn Lloyd, who has missed most of his career due to injuries, and to a combination of Chris Brooks and the recently acquired Kaleb Johnson.

Considering that, head coach Matt LaFleur won't have much of a choice but to put the ball in Jordan Love's hands and give him more confidence and a longer leash than he usually does.
