Bruce Pearl led the Auburn Tigers back to the Final Four after a disappointing 2023 campaign, which ended in a heartbreaking first round loss to Yale.
Unfortunately, their road ended with a loss to the eventual national champion Florida Gators in their Final Four game, but their fans are excited for the future of Auburn basketball.
Johni Broome made waves as one of college basketball's best, and maybe the best transfer acquisition of all time. Another star in the making was freshman guard Tahaad Pettiford.
Pettiford announced on Instagram that he will be testing the 2025 NBA Draft process, including a heartfelt message to Auburn fans.
"Regardless of what happens next, Auburn will always be my home, and if I choose to return, let's run it back," said Pettiford.
Beloved by fans with his flashes of scoring, especially in NCAA Tournament games against Creighton and Michigan, he sparked the offense when it was needed.
His leadership on the court as just a freshman shows how he may be ready to take the next step in his career.
Pettiford is currently a late second round draft selection, which could persuade him to come back to Auburn for at least his sophomore season. With his decision, he retains his college eligibility and if he chooses to do so, has stated it will be with Bruce Pearl and the Tigers.
He ended his freshman season with 11.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game, and wish him the best in his next journey, whether that is the NBA or back with Auburn.
