Indiana Fever All-Star guard Caitlin Clark returned to the team’s starting rotation against the Golden State Valkyries.
Wednesday’s game against Golden State will be her first since injuring her groin, which sidelined her for five games. During her time out of action, Clark told the media during a pregame press conference that she was able to recharge by spending time with family over the 4th of July weekend.
“I think the hardest part is when you feel that your body is ready, but it’s not quite there,” Clark said. “That's a good mental reset for myself. I just tried not to do too much because that’s not the best for my back.”
Furthermore, the 23-year-old also made time to play MLB The Show 25 on PS5 with her boyfriend, Connor McCaffery. “But he’s pretty good at it, so I haven’t been able to get too many wins,” Clark added.
Some know McCaffery and Clark for being competitive in any game they play. The Fever guard has said in the past that she would want to win every game, but it seems to be pretty hard to make that happen when playing against a fellow competitor like McCaffery.
Her boyfriend is a former member of the Iowa Hawkeyes men’s basketball team and can even get competitive while playing board games like Monopoly, according to Fever guard Lexie Hull.
“You see her and her boyfriend going at it,” Hull said during an interview with ESPN in May. “I don’t know if she and her boyfriend talk on the car ride home because it gets so competitive, but it’s fun.”
Clark returns to the Fever to compete against the Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday, July 9.
