Loyola Chicago continued its undefeated start to the 2024-25 men's basketball season with a 76-54 victory over Eastern Michigan. The program's most famous fan witnessed Tuesday's home victory, but some players missed her celebration attempt.
The Ramblers improved to 7-0 after shooting 54.7 percent from the floor and dominating the glass with 42 rebounds to the Eagles' 15. Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt, the team's 105-year-old chaplain, watched the victory inside Gentile Arena.
After the game, the Loyola Chicago players passed Sister Jean on their way back to the tunnel. Sitting in a wheelchair, she held out her fist for a bump. However, they left her hanging.
"Why’d they do Sister Jean like that?" College Basketball Content wrote when posting the clip on social media.

It appears the players didn't notice Sister Jean below their line of vision. However, some fans still considered the slight to be unforgivable.
"There’s one rule in college basketball that must be followed: You NEVER ignore Sister Jean," a fan declared.
"Penalty for this should be lifetime tournament ban," Golf Channel's Brentley Romine claimed.
"Sister Jean's gonna hit the transfer portal if this continues," Andrew Mason on Denver Sports joked. "I'm sure DePaul would love to bring her in.
"The Curse of Sister Jean starts now," The Mark Titus Show said. "Loyola Chicago has to learn how to respect their GOAT."
Sister Jean rose to national notoriety while cheering on Loyola Chicago during the team's improbable 2018 Final Four run as a No. 11 seed. At age 101, she traveled with them during the 2021 NCAA tournament after receiving her COVID-19 vaccine.
She's served as the team chaplain for 30 years, so fans would have every right to be angry if there was any reason to believe the Loyola Chicago players intentionally ignored her. Chances are they've seen the clip and will make amends the next time Sister Jean wants a fist bump.
