The first round of the NBA draft is set to take place Wednesday night, with the second round scheduled for Thursday.
Much of the attention leading up to draft night has centered on Duke Blue Devils star Cooper Flagg, who is widely expected to be selected No. 1 overall by the Dallas Mavericks.
If the Mavericks do take Flagg, he’ll join forces with NBA veterans and future Hall of Famers like Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson, and former Duke standout Kyrie Irving — placing him in a win-now environment from day one. Dallas entered the lottery with just a 1.8% chance of landing the top pick, but the ping pong balls fell their way.
Ahead of the big night, the NBA invited fans to submit questions for draft prospects. One fan asked Flagg: “Now that you're on the cusp of making the NBA, what is your ultimate goal in your rookie season and upcoming NBA career?”
Flagg didn’t hesitate in his response.
“You know, I think as a rookie, a big one is win Rookie of the Year,” Flagg said. “That's just a big goal for myself and I'd say long-term just be who I am. Just get better every single day and just overtime just keep continuing to get better and better.”

For over a year now, Cooper Flagg has been viewed as the consensus No. 1 pick — regardless of which team landed the selection. Remarkably, he managed to exceed the immense expectations placed on him during his freshman season at Duke.
Flagg led the Blue Devils in nearly every major statistical category, averaging 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game. His dominance earned him several prestigious honors, including the Wooden Award, Naismith Men's College Player of the Year, and ACC Player of the Year.
Now, he’s on the verge of turning his NBA dreams into a reality — a rare feat for someone hailing from a small New England town like Newport, Maine.
