Cooper Flagg's Trainer Reveals His Plans After Summer League Decision

The Dallas Mavericks chose to shut down Cooper Flagg after two Summer League games. As disappointing as that might be for the fans, it's standard procedure with high-end prospects like him.

Of course, that doesn't mean he's done working. If anything, the real work ahead of his rookie season is just getting started.

According to his trainer, Matt MacKenzie, the first-overall pick will now split his time between working out in Dallas and in his native Maine:

“He’ll split time between Dallas and Maine," MacKenzie told Sportskeeda's Mark Medina. "So I’ll be spending plenty of time out in Dallas just to continue to develop relationships with his coaching staff and learn about what is expected of him and what the processes are. Then he’ll spend some time up in Maine."

The Duke product will also conduct a young basketball camp in Maine, leading by example and serving as a role model for over 700 kids, according to his trainer:

"He has a camp that he’ll be running in the middle of August for the young kids in Maine," MacKenzie added. It’s already sold out. It sold out within 30 minutes. There are over 700 kids. That’s cool.”

Flagg bounced back with 31 points in his second game of the Summer League after scoring just ten points in his debut. He also made a strong impression with his solid defense and aggressiveness in both contests.

Of course, he's going to be a work in progress, but all rookies grow through a bit of a learning curve, and some growing pains are to be expected.
