Dan Hurley and the UConn Huskies won back-to-back national titles in 2023 and 2024, defeating all 12 of their opponents by double digits. They carried that winning streak into the 2025 NCAA Tournament, extending it to 13 games after a first-round victory over the Oklahoma Sooners.

In the second round, however, they ran into the Florida Gators — the team that would go on to win the national championship. UConn led for most of the second half, but ultimately lost 77—75, ending the Huskies' impressive run.

Hurley has been busy early on this offseason, reloading for another deep run next season. The 52-year-old added Georgia guard Silas Demary Jr and Dayton point guard Malachi Smith through the transfer portal.

Meanwhile, he's also busy filling in the non-conference portion of UConn's 2025 schedule. On Monday, news broke that the Huskies are getting a rematch with the Gators.

According to college basketball reporter Jeff Goodman, "Florida will play UConn on Dec. 9 in the Jimmy V Classic at MSG, source told The Field of 68."

The Jimmy V Classic will also feature a matchup between BYU and Clemson.

This UConn–Florida rematch will be the third meeting between the two programs since Dan Hurley took over in Storrs, and the second since Todd Golden became the Gators’ head coach.

Here are those results:

  • 11/17/2019 (Storrs, CT) - UConn defeated Florida 62—59
  • 12/7/2022 (Gainesville, FL) - UConn defeated Florida 75—54
  • 3/23/2025 (Raleigh, NC) - Florida defeated UConn 77—75

Next season’s game could be one of the most-watched of the regular season, as it will feature the past three national champions.
