Dusty May and the Michigan Wolverines had a 2025-26 college basketball season to remember. Finishing with a 31-3 regular-season record, including 19-1 in Big Ten play, Michigan secured a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament before advancing all the way to the national championship, where they defeated Dan Hurley and the No. 2 seed UConn Huskies.

The Wolverines were led by All-American forward Yaxel Lendeborg throughout the season, as he averaged 15.1 points on 51.5% shooting, 6.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. Now, Lendeborg has wrapped up his senior season and is likely headed to the 2026 NBA Draft, but he is not the only player May and Michigan have lost following the national championship win.

Morez Johnson Jr., a 6-foot-9 sophomore forward from Riverdale, Illinois, began his college career with the Illinois Fighting Illini in 2024-25 before transferring to Michigan. And during his lone season in Ann Arbor, Johnson proved to be one of May's best players, averaging 13.1 points on 62.3% shooting, 7.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.

Adey Mara also joined May's squad ahead of the 2025-26 season after spending his first two college years with the UCLA Bruins. And, like Johnson, the 7-foot-3 center from Spain became a starter immediately for the Wolverines, having the best season of his career with 12.1 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.

However, on Friday, both Johnson and Mara decided it was time to move on, declaring for the 2026 NBA Draft, where they will join Lendeborg.

"13 months ago, Aday Mara and Morez Johnson were both coming off the bench for Big Ten programs," Michigan reporter Scott Bell wrote on X. "Fast forward a year. They’re both Big Ten Champions. They’re both National Champions. And they’re both likely first-round picks in the NBA Draft. Pretty good deal for all involved."

May will now see some major roster turnover heading into the 2026-27 season, but he will be getting the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player, Elliot Cadeau, back for another year.
