The Texas Tech Red Raiders won Game 2 of their two-game road trip 72-67 over the BYU Cougars at the Marriott Center in Provo on Tuesday.

Elijah Hawkins dropped in a season-high 22 points including a career-high six 3-pointers and Darrion Williams scored 18 with seven boards and four assists.

"Our team stayed the course and controlled tempo," Texas Tech coach Grant McCasland said. "We came up with timely plays. It starts with Elijah Hawkins, Darrion Williams and Chance McMillian. Those guys just hung in there. Chance broke the game open with a couple 3s. Our ability to limit BYU's 3-point makes and beating them on the glass is what I thought was the difference in the game.

"It was a tremendous college basketball game in a remarkable environment."

Texas Tech improves to 11-3 overall and 2-1 in Big 12 play and heads back home 2-0 on the road trip after dispatching Utah on Saturday in Salt Lake City.

BYU falls to 10-4 and 1-2 in league play after leading the Red Raiders 34-32 at the half and by six with eight minutes left in the game. Tech used Hawkins' 3-pointers to get back in the game and led by two after a pair of McMillian 3s.

McMillian hit another 3-pointer with 6:42 left to put the Red Raiders in front for good at 57-55. McMillian ended with 16 points and a team-high eight boards.

"I just stayed confident throughout the game," said McMillian who scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half. "We showed mental toughness to win 50/50 balls and stayed together. Made winning plays."

Tech improves to 4-3 all-time against BYU including a four-game win streak.

The Red Raiders head home for a matchup against No. 3 Iowa State on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT at United Supermarkets Arena.
