Eric Church cancels concert so he can watch UNC-Duke Final Four game

So, this weekend is a big one for Duke and North Carolina fans. Like, a really ridiculously big weekend, as the heated rivalry squares off for its first NCAA Final Four matchup. And it's one weekend that has now left a whole bunch of country music fans with their Wranglers in a twist.

Country music star Eric Church canceled a sold-out show in Texas over the weekend because he, a North Carolina native, wants to stay home with his family to watch his beloved Tar Heels take on the Blue Devils. Church said in a statement that asking for understanding at this time is "the most selfish thing" he has ever asked his fans to do, but that it's "that same type of passion felt by the people who fill the seats at concerts that makes us want to be part of a crowd at a game of this significance."

Many fans who took to Twitter to respond to the concert being canceled were quite compelled to comment on the "selfish" angle.

Church did get a little bit of online support from the sports world, who sympathize with a sports fan not wanting to miss his team play in a first-in-history matchup with a major rival. Although to be fair, many of those tweets started off with the admission he/she had no idea who Eric Church was.

There is no word yet whether the concert will be rescheduled.
