The Florida Gators' basketball program and head coach Todd Golden reached the top of the world at the end of the 2024-25 season. They were able to knock off the Houston Cougars to win the national championship.

Golden and company had looked the part of a championship caliber team all year long. Despite many close calls during the NCAA Tournament, Florida found ways to win games. That led to winning it all.

At just 39 years old, Golden has the Gators looking like a contender for years to come. He's one of the best head coaches in the game and has a long future ahead of him.

On Tuesday, Florida made a major move regarding its head coach.

According to a report from Jeff Goodman of Field of 68, the Gators have agreed to a new six-year contract extension with their head coach.

"BREAKING: Florida coach Todd Golden, coming off a national title, has agreed to a new 6-year contract through 2031 that will place him among the highest-paid coaches in the country, a source told @thefieldof68," he posted on X. "Golden, 39, led the Gators to a 36-4 record this past season and an SEC tournament title."

This was a move that was just a matter of time. Keeping Golden around long-term was a no-brainer decision for Florida.

Now that the move is done, the Gators should be among college basketball's elite for years to come. With Golden leading the way, they will be in great hands.

After winning a national championship last year, it will be interesting to see how Florida looks during the 2025-26 season.
