The Florida Gators had a year that fans will never forget last season. Florida won its third national championship in program history, led by a trio of outstanding guards. However, with the departure of all three this offseason, head coach Todd Golden had to reload this summer. He did this in the NCAA transfer portal, landing Arkansas guard Boogie Fland.

As a freshman last year with the Razorbacks, Fland wowed fans around the country with his athletic ability and scoring prowess.

However, before Fland could set foot on the floor in Gainesville for the Gators, he and Florida revealed some scary news to the college basketball world.

On Thursday, Golden disclosed that Fland underwent sports hernia surgery on July 3, according to the AP's Mark Long. Long said that the 6-foot-3 guard will be out for 4 to 6 weeks but should be healthy in time for the beginning of fall camp.

This is the second major surgery Fland has undergone in his collegiate career. Last season, he had surgery to repair a torn Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL) in his right thumb. This injury kept Fland out for almost three months before returning for Arkansas's NCAA Tournament run in March.

Fland shined as a freshman in 2024, averaging 13.5 points, 5.1 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game in 21 appearances for John Calipari's team. He also showed promise on the defensive end, as he had over one steal per contest.

While this is sudden and unwelcome news to Florida fans, the flair and excitement that Fland brings on the court should quickly put their worries to rest.
