Sam Walters was set to join Mississippi State, but has a change of heart.

The former Michigan power forward will end up in the Atlantic Coast Conference with the SMU Mustangs in the transfer portal, according to reports.

Walters was previously one of five transfers for MSU with a top 25 portal class. However, He decided Dallas will be the next stop in his career. He’ll be the third pickup in the portal for the Mustangs, including C-USA Player of the Year Jaron Pierre (Jacksonville State) and Corey Washington (Wichita State).

Walters averaged 5.2 points (42.6% FG, 38.2% 3PT) and 2.1 rebounds in 60 games as a reserve over the past two seasons. He initially committed to Alabama as a four-star recruit in the 2023 class. He was the No. 68 prospect overall as the No. 10 PF and the No. 6 player out of the state of Florida.

Now, Walters is part of the Top 300 transfer portal players, according to On3. He'll look to contribute more for Andy Enfield and the Mustangs.
