Martin coached the Vols from 2011 to 2014 before leaving to become the new head coach at California. He resigned from California after the 2016-2017 season to take the head coaching job at Missouri, a job he held until he was fired in 2022.
After Martin left Tennessee in 2014, the Vols hired Donnie Tyndall to serve as the program's head coach. Tyndall was fired after just one season due to NCAA violations that occurred during his time at Southern Mississippi. After Tyndall was fired, Tennessee hired Rick Barnes, who currently has the Vols just two games away from a Final Four appearance.
