Coming off a visit with the Maryland Terrapins last week, a promising four-star combo guard will visit UConn later this week.
Out of Wasatch Academy in Utah, Junior County is the #2 ranked shooting guard in what is expected to be a loaded 2026 recruiting class. Over the summer, County narrowed down his list of schools to 5 finalists: Purdue, Indiana, Arizona, Maryland, and UConn. County’s stock grew significantly following an impressive showing at the Nike 17U EYBL Peach Jam. County averaged 13.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game, showcasing a well-rounded skillset.
Adam Finkelstein of 247Sports spoke very favorably of Junior County over the summer. Finkelstein praised County’s versatility and the two-way value he can provide. Other features of County’s game include his three-level scoring and impressive rebounding as a guard. On a surface level, County’s skillset should allow him to make an immediate impact for the programs he listed as finalists.
Last week, County visited with the Maryland Terrapins on September 19. Buzz Williams is entering his first season as Maryland’s new head coach. The Terrapins had previously made the NCAA tournament two of the last three seasons, but Kevin Willard left to become the new head coach at Villanova. However, Williams will look to lead Maryland to consecutive tournament appearances for the first time since Mark Turgeon’s tenure.
Buzz Williams successfully flipped five-star guard Darius Adams from UConn shortly after taking over. While Adams did not have a clear path to playing time at UConn, Adams has the chance to really elevate the Terrapins’ status as a program. For 2026, Williams is making it a strong priority to land another elite combo guard in back-to-back years.
So far this month, County has visited Indiana, Arizona, and Maryland. County’s last visit with Purdue will not occur until November 15. Meanwhile, Junior County is set to visit the UConn Huskies on September 26. Currently, UConn is also involved with other top recruits such as Cole Cloer, Colben Landrew, Dylan Mingo, and now Junior County.
Junior County spoke very highly of the Huskies as a program, mentioning things such as their winning habits. County also mentioned that he has been very involved with Dan Hurley and Luke Murray about the things County needs to continue working on. UConn is bringing in a promising 2025 class, and they are looking to do the same for 2026. Junior County’s versatility on both ends would likely be very appealing to the way Hurley wants to play.
This past season was disappointing for the UConn Huskies. Following an impressive run of back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024, UConn was nowhere near as dominant. The Huskies ended up losing in the round of 32 to the eventual champions, the Florida Gators. The Huskies will be looking to bounce back this upcoming season while also bringing in an impressive 2026 class. While Maryland has some momentum for Junior County, the Huskies will likely be in the mix to land him.
