On Tuesday, Pitt priority target Derek Dixon, who has visited campus several times, including a recent official visit, narrowed his list down to six schools and included Pitt.
He also included Vanderbilt, Arizona, Syracuse, North Carolina, and Virginia.
Dixon is a 6-foot-5 guard out of Washington D.C. Gonzaga Prep. He is a four-star prospect who is now ranked as the No. 58 player in the senior class of 2025, per the 247 Sports Composite ranking. He recently shined at Nike EYBL Peach Jam down in North Augusta, South Carolina, leading Team Takeover to the final four of the prestigious AAU event. Jeff Capel and Milan Brown were both down in the gym watching Dixon play on several recent occasions.
Dixon already took an official visit to Pitt, and has several visits lined up to other schools for this upcoming fall. He will visit Vanderbilt starting on Aug. 30, as well as North Carolina on Sept. 6 and Arizona on Sept. 13.
Pitt recruit Derek Dixon, who has visited several times, cut his list on Tuesday down to six schools.
Pitt is now in six top-school lists at the moment. The Panthers are heavily in the mix for the following recruits: Meleek Thomas, Amari Evans, Omari Witherspoon, CJ Ingram, Davion Hannah, and now Dixon.
“They say I’m going to be able to play early, they have a place for me,” Dixon told Pittsburgh Sports Now on The Pittsburgh Basketball Show. “They’re going to give me a lot of freedom. If Jaland’s there next year, it’ll be me and him in the back court and we can work off each other with a lot of freedom, a lot of ball screens, high-paced offense, which is all things that I want. The trust that I’ve built in the coaching staff, that’s one thing they really harp on that. They’ve built great relationships with me. That’s pretty much their pitch.”
