Gonzaga hoops star Drew Timme won't take advantage of extra eligibility: 'I’m moving on'

Drew Timme was a constant force on the college basketball scene last season as a more than notable member of a Gonzaga Bulldogs team that was ranked No. 1 for much of the campaign. He, along with Chet Holmgren, were the straws that stirred the drink for that team.

Timme is the elder statesman of Gonzaga basketball now and has been for some time. He came back in 2022-23 for his senior season and fourth overall campaign with the Bulldogs and he's having a great season, averaging 21.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. Though he's been with the 'Zags for a long time and has been a great player for the program, don't expect him to play for Gonzaga any further past this season, though.

“I’ve done my four years,” Timme recently told Seth Davis of The Athletic. “I’m a senior, and I’m moving on.”

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 and its impact on the college basketball season, Timme could technically come back for an extra season. One gets the sense that he feels his time with the Zags is coming to a natural end, though. He even told Davis that the prospect of making NIL money won't keep him hooping in Spokane for much longer.

It's worth noting that Timme has seen quite a few iterations of this Gonzaga program.

He's also been around to see multiple players star with the Bulldogs and then head onto the NBA. Holmgren, who was a freshman, was drafted by the Oklahoma City Thunder with the No. 2 of the 2022 NBA Draft. The 2020-21 team featured players like Jalen Suggs and Corey Kispert.

Suggs went No. 5 overall in the 2021 NBA Draft to the Orlando Magic. Kispert was taken No. 15 overall in the same draft by the Washington Wizards.

The one constant over the past four years in Gonzaga has been Timme, as well as head coach Mark Few.

It sounds as if only one of those two will be back for the 'Zags after this season is concluded.
