Shortly after Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders impressed in his preseason debut against the Carolina Panthers on Friday, a clip of him confronting Browns insider Tony Grossi went viral.
Sanders can be heard in the video accusing Grossi of saying only "negative stuff about me." During Monday's edition of "The Daily Grossi" on YouTube, the ESPN Cleveland/The Land on Demand reporter addressed the interaction.
"One thing to note was that I initiated the conversation," Grossi explained, per Reice Shipley of Awful Announcing. "[Sanders] left the podium to walk to the locker room, and I called his name to ask him another question. And that’s when he discussed what was on his mind. I was a little surprised he went into that because, as I said, it was inaudible, but I said, 'Hey, this is your night, man. This is a big night for you, have fun.' But I appreciated the fact that he did not say what was on his mind from the podium, which other quarterbacks have done with me, which is very uncomfortable."
As ESPN's Jake Trotter noted in 2019, former Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield snapped at Grossi following a Cleveland loss for asking "the dumbest question you could ask" during a media session:
More recently, Grossi has pumped the brakes regarding the Sanders hype after the Browns made the Colorado star a fifth-round pick during this year's draft.

Grossi offered such takes before Sanders completed 14-of-23 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns in Cleveland's 30-10 win over Carolina. To his credit, Grossi provided high praise for Sanders' performance against the Panthers on Monday:

"It was good-natured," Grossi added about the viral moment with Sanders. "I don’t know what caused us to laugh. I really can’t recall that conversation precisely. But we went on good terms. We had a couple other words in the locker room, too. ...We saw each other [Monday] at practice and we move on."
Sanders seems to have no chance of starting Cleveland's Week 1 game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 7 over Joe Flacco as long as the veteran remains healthy.
That said, Sanders will likely receive another opportunity to silence Grossi and his other critics against the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday, but Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski has yet to name a starter for the matchup.
