Gonzaga Projected to Face SEC Team in Latest CBS Bracketology Report

Mark Few and the Gonzaga Bulldogs closed out the regular season with a pair of resounding road wins over Santa Clara and San Francisco, respectively, finishing 23-8 overall and second in the WCC with a 14-4 record.

The Zags will now have a long wait until their next game on Monday, March 10 in the semifinals of the WCC Tournament, where they will likely face the No. 3 seed Dons for a third time this season.

The two road wins more or less solidified Gonzaga a spot in the NCAA Tournament, but a WCC Tournament championship would not only give the Zags even more momentum heading into the big dance, but it could push them up a seed line or two in the eyes of the selection committee.

The latest bracketology projection from Jerry Palm at CBS has the Zags sitting as a No. 9 seed in the Midwest region, where they would face No. 8 seed Vanderbilt in Wichita.

No. 1 seed Houston would await the winner of that game in the Round of 32.

Vanderbilt is 20-9 in the first season under new coach Mark Byington, going 12-1 in the non-conference before battling to an 8-8 record in the loaded SEC. That includes wins over Tennessee, Kentucky, Texas A&M, Missouri, Ole Miss, and Texas for the Commodores, who are led by guards Jason Edwards and AJ Hoggard as well as forward Devin McGlockton and sharpshooter Tyler Nickel.

Elsewhere in the WCC, Saint Mary's remains a No. 7 seed in Palm's updated bracket, now lining up in Cleveland against No. 10 Indiana, who Gonzaga defeated in the Battle 4 Atlantis on Thanksgiving.

Other Gonzaga opponents from this year in Palm's updated bracketology include Kentucky (5 seed), UCLA (7), UConn (9), San Diego State (10), and West Virginia (10), with Baylor in a play-in game facing Xavier, where the winner would earn a No. 11 seed and face No. 6 Memphis.
